Hi Unity Users! This week’s digest includes information on the impending Unity maintenance period, a new research computing system, and publications that cite Unity…
‼️ IMPORTANT: Unity Maintenance Period Information
Unity, including login access and storage, will be offline from June 15, 2026 at 5:00 pm Eastern through June 18, 2026 at 9:00 pm Eastern for necessary maintenance and upgrades.
Jobs will not start if the time limit overlaps with the beginning of maintenance. Use the -t flag on Slurm to set a time limit that shortens your job to fit into the acceptable window. Adjust your existing jobs with scontrol update jobid=... timelimit=...
The queue may need to be purged during maintenance, so any job queued will not run after the reservation is lifted. Adding --deadline=2026-06-15 to your job will allow it to remove itself from the queue if it will not run in time for maintenance.
🎉 Introducing Harmony
The Unity team is excited to announce Harmony, a new Kubernetes cluster for research computing that is capable of hosting persistent services.
We are now accepting proposals for user apps to be hosted on Harmony. If you have an app you would like to host, submit the Harmony app request form.
- Examples of user apps include a systems biology resource for Caulobacter crescentus, and a dashboard for local air quality data over time from different sensors
We also plan to use Harmony to host shared AI models for Unity researchers. This will allow more jobs on Unity to use AI while avoiding long wait times or high-memory GPU requests. Fill out the Harmony AI model survey to help us better understand what AI models you are using!
